Baccalaureate Degree Programme in Liberal
Arts (LAS) - Penn State University
Degree Programme in Singapore
Course Contents and Tuition Fees
The 123-credit (minimum) Letters, Arts and Sciences
Bachelor of Arts Degree programme is offered by The College of the Liberal
Arts, The Pennsylvania State University. The degree is a liberal arts/
general studies degree that gives you a wide and solid educational base.
Areas of study include writing/speaking skills, the arts, humanities,
social and behavioural sciences, natural sciences, and quantification.
There is one emphasis available in Organisational Leadership.
The degree programme consists of 15 core courses
or requirements for MAJOR (45 credits), 16 GENERAL EDUCATION courses (48
credits) and 10 electives (30 credits). Many of the courses in the Certificate
Programmes being offered in Singapore can be used to fulfil courses and
also electives. Holders of polytechnic diplomas, A-level and specialist
courses (e.g. National Service courses) may enjoy transferred credits.
Under University Policy 83-80.1, a student must complete 36 of their
last 60 credits (please note that for students from Singapore and the
Region, it is 45 credits instead of 36 credits) at Penn State in order
for PSU to grant the degree and also must fulfil the 123 credits mandated
by the College of Liberal Arts for the baccalaureate degree in Letters,
Arts, and Science.
The approved curriculum, designed to meet the needs of the Singapore
Students is outlined as follows:
